Laurent Daumail’s work as DJ Cam reaches back into the 90s and the very beating heart of the French music scene, but while he made his name as an MPC-toting beatsmith with a love for house and hip-hop, in 2008 he went deeper into the music by putting together the DJ Cam Quartet. Rebirth Of Cool is quintessential downtempo, oozing jazzy sophistication and crate-digging cool with the real instrumental chops to take it to the next level. You can thank Alexandre Tassel on bugle for a lot of that, not to mention Jerome Regard’s slinky double bass lines. Finally repressed after years in the pricey second hand wilderness, this is a must-have for all lounge lizards.
